Marcus Stanford was arrested at his home in Forreston, in the Adelaide Hills, early on Wednesday morning.
The 24-year-old flower farm labourer is due to fly to Sydney on Thursday where he will be charged with being an accessory after the fact to Ms Scott’s murder in the NSW town of Leeton in April.
Police will allege accused killer Vincent Stanford sent material in the mail after Ms Scott’s death to Marcus, who then disposed of it.
It is believed Marcus Stanford and his two house mates, backpackers working on farms, were taken to a South Australian police station to be questioned after his twin’s arrest on April 8.
Detectives from NSW Police Strike Force Gundibri flew to Adelaide and assisted local police with a raid on Marcus Stanford’s home during the early hours of Wednesday.
He was then arrested and appeared at Mt Barker Magistrates Court just after 12pm on Wednesday.
A request to extradite him to New South Wales was granted, the Advertiser reported.
During the brief hearing, Marcus Stanford was asked if he knew anything about the warrant for his arrest which he said he did not. He also indicated he had not spoken to a lawyer.
When asked by Magistrate Jack Fahey if there was any reason why he should not be returned to Leeton, he replied: “Never been there, so I wouldn’t need to return”.
Following the court hearing, Marcus Stanford was ordered into the custody of NSW detectives to appear in Sydney Central Local Court on Thursday.
He will remain in custody in Adelaide overnight on Wednesday and is scheduled to board a flight to Sydney at 9.30am SA time.
Neighbours on the Forreston street where Mr Stanford was arrested said he was a quiet man who kept to himself.
The Advertiser reported it had been told he was living in a share house with two other men and worked at a local flower farm.
The owner of the flower farm declined to comment.
Another neighbour Patrick Kavanagh told The Advertiser that he heard helicopters flying very low over Stanford’s house about three hours after his arrest.
Mr Kavanagh said people, like Stanford, who worked at the flower farm lived a transient lifestyle.
“Like most people, you don’t think it’s going to happen on your street,” he said.
Ms Scott’s burnt body was found five days after she vanished in bushland north of Griffith, just one day before she was to be married to fiancee Aaron Leeson-Woolley.
She was last seen at Leeton High School on April 5 where she worked, preparing lesson plans, before she went on her honeymoon.
School cleaner Vincent Stanford, 24, was arrested for the murder in April and last week had an additional charge of aggravated sexual assault laid against him.
His case will return to court on September 30.
The twins were born in Tasmania and later moved to the Netherlands before returning to Australia.
