But that’s exactly what greeted viewers on Channel Seven yesterday, with the broadcast of a raunchy teen flick from the 1980s.
The cult classic Fast Times at Ridgemont High, starring Sean Penn and Jennifer Jason Leigh, was the network’s midday movie on Thursday.
The film chronicles the often explicit, drug-fuelled and sexual antics of a group of high school students. Among its racy content is masturbation, simulated oral sex and full frontal nudity.
It carries a classification in Australia of M for mature audiences.
The Australian Communications and Media Authority’s code of practice stipulates that content with an M rating cannot be broadcast before 8.30pm.
However there’s a loophole of sorts that allows networks to show adult content between midday and 3pm during the school term, when most kids aren’t home.
And it’s seems the colourful scheduling move didn’t put too many viewers offside.
It’s understood the Seven switchboard didn’t receive any significant feedback during or after the broadcast.
