The shot-stopper is not worried by the arrival of
Kiko Casilla and the potential signing of the Manchester United star,
insisting he is ready to fight for his place in the team
Keylor Navas has welcomed competition from David de Gea and Kiko Casilla for the first-choice goalkeeper spot at Real Madrid. The Costa Rica goalkeeper is the most experienced No.1 in Rafael Benitez's squad following the departure of Iker Casillas. However, he will have to compete with imminent signing Casilla for the spot, while De Gea is still heavily rumoured to be on his way to the Santiago Bernabeu during the current transfer window.
Navas, who joined last summer after a bright World Cup campaign with Costa Rica and an impressive two-year spell at Levante, is ready to fight for his place in the Madrid first team after playing second fiddle to Casillas for much of last term.
"The competition is good, I have always said that," he told reporters. "Whoever comes to Madrid does so because he has the qualities to do things well.
"We are going to fight for a spot with humility, but with respect for team-mates, and fighting hard.
"Casilla is a great goalkeeper. If Madrid notice him it is because he has great qualities.
"I want to be the starting goalkeeper and I hope to be able to achieve it.”
The 28-year-old says he wishes Casillas well in his adventure at Porto, having brought an end to a 25-year period with Madrid to join the Portuguese side.
"I think that it is a decision that has to be respected," he added. "A decision that he took.
"As we all told him, we wish him the best. I hope that he can be happy there and enjoy it."
