Porto chief mocks Mourinho's Casillas rant

The Portuguese club's president says the Chelsea coach has completely misunderstood how much they are paying the goalkeeper for his services

Jose Mourinho has been lambasted for his criticism of Porto signing Iker Casillas by the club's president, who claims his salary anger is unfounded.
The Chelsea boss, who coached Porto to Champions League glory a little over a decade ago, said he "could not believe" that the Portuguese club splashed out on the Real Madrid shot-stopper's salary, rumoured to be around €3.5 million.
However, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa has revealed the Madrid club are footing the vast majority of Casillas' wages, rendering the Porto legend's complaint obsolete.
"For us, the Casillas deal was highly attractive in terms of costs," the Porto president told O Jogo. "He's still considered one of the best in the world and has one of the best resumes around.
"At 34 years of age he still has three of four seasons left at the highest level. I wonder if any club in the world would turn down the chance to sign Casillas for wages equivalent to two of our outgoing loanees, Andres Fernandez and Fabiano.
"I chose it was better to sign Casillas. Mourinho did an inconceivably made fun of the Casillas deal, but he's shot himself in the foot as Porto are paying less than a third of his salary – Madrid pay the rest."
Mourinho and Casillas are believed to be on sour terms following a tumultuous final season together at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2012-13.
The coach suspected his goalkeeper to be Madrid's infamous rat – leaking line-ups to the media – an injury gave him an excuse to drop him for the second half of the campaign in favour of Diego Lopez.
Even when Mourinho left, Casillas failed to reclaim his position and spent the next 12 months watching from the bench in La Liga matches under Carlo Ancelotti.
Following a World Cup group stage exit with Spain, Casillas was reinstated as Madrid's outright No.1 but was consistently criticised for his performances by the media and Blancos fans.
Madrid finally caved into pressure to ditch Casillas this summer by farming him out on a free transfer to the Estadio do Dragao, signing Kiko Casilla as his replacement while being consistently linked with Manchester United's David de Gea.
