Southampton have confirmed the loan signing of Steven Caulker from Queens Park Rangers.
The 23-year-old centre-back will spend the 2015-16 campaign at St Mary’s, though it is understood the deal is not with a view to a long-term deal.
Caulker, who has one England cap, scoring against Sweden in a November 2012 friendly, will fill the defensive void left by Toby Alderweireld’s move to Tottenham and a serious knee injury sustained by Florin Gardos.
“Having a player of his [Caulker’s] calibre, he’s going to make all the centre backs be on our toes,” said the Southampton captain, José Fonte.
