Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has likened Diego Costa to Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez ahead of their meeting at the Etihad Stadium.
Chelsea face Manchester City on Sunday having drawn their Premier League
opener against Swansea, while Manuel Pellegrini's side ran out
convincing winners against West Brom, with Kompany on target in a 3-0
victory.
And while Costa failed to strike on the opening day of the season, the
centre-back has identified him as a 'special breed' of striker and is
ready for a physical battle with the Spain international.
“He [Costa] has an edge to his game that makes him a player to be careful with," Kompany told reporters.
“His record speaks for itself. It’s all you need to know about him. He
finds these pockets and is incredibly efficient and deadly.
“Sometimes don’t get involved too much [with Costa]. Play the right
amount of game with him and focus on what you have to do after that.
“I think he’s a special breed of striker. [Wayne] Rooney has that edge,
so does [Luis] Suarez. They want to use more than just their feet to get
their goals - but I like it. It’s one side of the game I enjoy.
“Playing against those strikers you can never predict the outcome
because they’re just so good that if I’m having the best game of my life
they can still score a goal. But I can be tough also so I guess it goes
both ways.”
