Bournemouth have submitted a new bid of around £5m for Crystal Palace striker Glenn Murray as Eddie Howe attempts to strengthen his squad before the end of the transfer window.
Murray, 31, was the subject of a £3m bid earlier this month from the Premier League new boys but that was swiftly rejected by Palace. However, with Howe having made the former Brighton striker his No1 target, it is understood that the new offer could be enough to persuade his current club to do business.
Having started in the opening day victory over Norwich, Murray was left on the bench for Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal.
Palace manager Alan Pardew insisted this week that he would like to keep the player, who scored seven Premier League goals last season as Palace finished 10th.
“Glenn Murray is very much our player. He has been and will be brilliant for this football club going forward,” Pardew said.
“As much as we owe Glenn, he owes us for the platform that we’ve given him in the Premier League, and I have a great relationship with him.”
Murray has yet to be offered an extension to his current contract, which expires in 2017. That was signed in January, although it came before a run of six goals in six games between February and April.
Despite already signing Yohan Cabaye, Bakary Sako, Patrick Bamford on loan from Chelsea and Connor Wickham from Sunderland, Palace are still in the market for new players before the transfer window closes. They have been tracking Reading central defender Michael Hector and are keen to push through a deal this month.
