Amid speculation that European football's chief has
been asked to replace Sepp Blatter, his organisation has remained
tight-lipped
Uefa insists "nothing has been decided" regarding whether president
Michel Platini will stand for the leadership of Fifa on the back of
speculation that he has the support of numerous football associations.World football's governing body is convening in Zurich this week to decide on a date to hold the new presidential elections after current incumbent Sepp Blatter confirmed his intention to step down in June, mere days after being re-elected.
Blatter's announcement came on the back of 14 FBI indictments centering around a Fifa corruption investigation, and reports on Monday suggested Platini had the backing of several world football chiefs to stand for the presidency.
It is thought that Platini has the support of Europe, Asia, South America, plus North and Central America and the Caribbean, but Uefa was tight-lipped when asked whether there is any truth in the rumours.
"Nothing has been decided or announced on this subject," a Uefa spokesperson said on Monday.
