Manchester United omit Víctor Valdés from US tour amid transfer speculation

Víctor Valdés’s future at Manchester United has been thrown into doubt after he was omitted from Louis van Gaal’s squad for the tour of the United States that began on Monday.
The goalkeeper is David de Gea’s deputy and potential replacement should the latter depart for Real Madrid this summer. However rather than be left out due to injury Valdes was “not selected”, sources at United confirmed on Tuesday. For Van Gaal to leave him behind in this manner suggests Valdes’ future at the club is in the balance.
Antalyaspor are interested in signing Valdés but his agent denied the 33-year-old would leave United for the Turkish club . However given that De Gea could still remain at Old Trafford, Valdés may be considering a move away.
Beyond De Gea, Van Gaal’s goalkeeping options on the four-match tour are Anders Lindegaard, the 31-year-old who at one time challenged the Spaniard, and the 22-year-old Sam Johnstone, who has never made a first-team appearance.
United’s opening game is against the Mexican team Club América in Seattle on Friday.
