The Reds are closing in on a move for the Aston Villa
striker, who is set to have a medical with the Anfield side but is not
expected to join the club's pre-season tour
Liverpool have reached an agreement with Aston Villa over the payment terms of a deal to sign Christian Benteke, Goal understands.
The striker is set to have a medical with Brendan Rodgers' side imminently with Liverpool doctor Dr Andy Massey flying home from the club's pre-season tour of Australia.
Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre worked throughout the night from Adelaide to reach agreement with Aston Villa, although the striker is not expected to join up with the club on their pre-season tour.
As previously reported, Benteke is Liverpool's No.1 forward target
with the club willing to meet his £32.5 million buy-out clause
following the departure of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City for £49m.
Goal first revealed Brendan Rodgers' interest in April, while Chelsea had considered bidding before signing Radamel Falcao and, more recently, Manchester United were reported to have entered the race for his signature.
