Betting: Raheem Sterling 1/7 leave Liverpool before the end of the transfer window

Relations between the 20-year-old and the Reds hierarchy appear to be deteriorating at an ever-increasing rate and the bookmakers expect Sterling to make his exit soon

Raheem Sterling is one of the most valuable prospects in European football at the moment, or at least that's the way it seems after two substantial bids from Manchester City were rejected by Liverpool for the England international, the second of which was for a reported £35 million plus a futher £5m in add ons.

Sterling has spoken of his desire to play at the top level, including in the Champions League, and it appears that the relationship between the 20-year-old and the Reds is approaching breaking point, despite having two years left on his current deal at Anfield.

A subsequent new contract offer of £100,000 per week from the Merseyside club has seemingly come too late to keep the former QPR player at the club, with his sights being set elsewhere.

William Hill certainly think that Sterling has played his last competitive game for Liverpool with the bookmaker offering odds of just 1/7 (1.14) on the winger leaving the club before the transfer window closes. The same firm also go 1/6 (1.17) that he plays no part in their opening game of the Premier League campaign.

The game in question is a trip to the Britannia Stadium, the scene of a 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Stoke in the Reds' final game of the previous campaign. It's 7/2 (4.50) that Sterling is involved in the game with William Hill.

Before that though, the club will embark on a pre-season tour that will see them take on four sides in Australia and the Far East.

According to the latest reports, Sterling has made himself unavailable for this tour, presumably to try and force through a transfer away from Anfield while the rest of the squad are continuing their preparations for the new Premier League campaign but whether or not Brendan Rodgers will accept that is yet unknown

It seems that Manchester City's desire to lure the player to the Etihad Stadium has been handed a boost as the pressure is turned up on Liverpool, albeit the lack of an acceptable bid from City is still proving a significant stumbling block. Despite that, odds of 1/6 (1.17) on Sterling joining Manuel Pellegrini's side before the end of the transfer window certainly suggest that the player's efforts to secure a move will bear fruit in the end.
